FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pop-up entertainment, giveaways and more across Center City!

PHILADELPHIA (August 29, 2023): Beginning Tuesday, September 5 and continuing every Tuesday and Wednesday through October 11, the Center City District (CCD) is celebrating workers who are back in the office — and encouraging others to join them — with a series of morning and afternoon events. Center City Sunrise and Center City Social build on the success of programming CCD organized with building owners and managers this spring and summer, as the number of downtown office workers returned to two-thirds of 2019 levels.
Details include:

Center City Sunrise
Tuesdays & Wednesdays | Sept. 5-Oct. 11
7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. | Locations vary

CCD wants to make every commuter’s morning brighter! Every week in two separate locations, CCD will pop up near various transit hubs and populated office buildings to greet commuters with giveaways and entertainment. The site of these events will not be promoted in advance. Instead, CCD hopes to surprise and delight workers on their way into the office.

Center City Social
Tuesdays & Wednesdays | Sept. 6-Oct. 11
4 p.m.-6 p.m. | Locations vary

CCD will encourage workers to gather with friends and colleagues just steps from their desks at various office plazas across Center City. Locations and entertainment will vary from week to week. From live instrumental concerts and ping pong competitions to live painting and a visit from the Philly Goat Project, every event will be more exciting than the last. Details are to be announced and will be updated online at centercityphila.org/officeevents.

Current locations include:

Week 1:

Wednesday, September 6: 1818 Market Street

Week 2:

Wednesday, September 13: Three Logan Square (1717 Arch Street)

Week 3:

Week 6:

Wednesday, October 11: Commerce Square (2001 Market Street)

CCD has also partnered with Heyday Athletic to organize a 5-week-long cornhole tournament for Center City office workers.

In addition to the events that keep Center City an attractive place to live, work and visit, CCD will also expand its commitment to streetscape placemaking by installing 88 new in-street planters along West Market Street and JFK Boulevard to protect the bike lanes and green the office district. Passerby can expect to see the new planters popping up in bike lanes by the end of September.

As of February 2023, 66% of non-resident workers have returned to work downtown. Center City District continues to support that effort and encourages everyone to patronize the 2,900 retailers and restaurants that depend on in-person interaction. Find more information regarding employment, retail, transportation and more in the 2023 State of Center City report.

All events hosted by CCD are weather permitting and subject to change. To learn more, visit centercityphila.org.
